History
KADCA was founded back in 1976 under the guidance of the 1st Chairperson, Hugh Keogh. Kadca first started playing in Greendale Hall in Kilbarrack. The Kilbarrack and district community association helped the club pay the deposit to secure the hall and this was how the name was chosen! The Club moved to it’s permanent home in Baldoyle in 1987.
KADCA has had many of the country’s best players in the club and a great number of our players have represented Ireland down through the years. Our very 1st international player was Mary Dinan back in 1978. And our most recent international player was Brian Smyth in 2006. In February 2009 Sandra Lynch won the Senior Ladies doubles title becoming our most recent Senior National Title winner.
KADCA can also boast the youngest ever Irish International. At the tender age of just 14, Elaine Kiely got her 1st of many Irish Caps in 1992.
In 2000 Sonia McGinn became the 1st Badminton player to represent Ireland at an Olympic games. Sonia had played for KADCA for many years and Sydney 2000 is undoubtedly the proudest moment in KADCA’s History!
To celebrate KADCA’s 30th Birthday in 2006, the club (under the direction of the then Chairperson Judith Kinsella) organised a gala dinner reunion night to raise funds for two former members who had become ill, one of whom has unfortunately since passed away. A great night was had with many people who hadn’t seen each other for many years meeting up and raising money for a very worthy cause!
2008 saw the re-introduction of the Premier men’s league and cup after many years with no League. KADCA missed out on the league title but were successful winners of the cup! To top off a very successful season we also won the premier mixed league and the Senior 1 ladies league, which was the highest section that year!
In 2009 KADCA won the Badminton Ireland Dublin club of the year which was in no small part down to the very successful 1st year of KADCA’S Charity tournament in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital. The tournament was also named as the best event of National Badminton Week! We also had a couple of our younger members, Luke Moore and Crona Rooney nominated for the school’s sports personality of the year!
